Access Recycling develops recycling solutions for the rail industry. Since 2006 we have handled more than two million timber sleepers. We have developed machines to rapidly remove the steel base plates from timber sleepers, a mobile sawmill to process large quantities of old sleepers into firewood and a mobile shredder to turn the remnants into garden mulch.

We have a large fleet of machinery for use in the Rail corridor, which includes hi-rail mounted excavators. Our staff are trained and accredited for rail corridor work. We also have our own in-house protection officers that are experienced in working with the ARTC and Pacific National. Our rail industry experience includes successfully completing the following projects:

  • 1990 - 1994 Scrapping of over 500 Freight Corp. wagons at Junee Roundhouse for Sims Metal

  • 1992 Purchase of 20 damaged wagons and site cleanup, National Rail derailment, Kiacatoo Siding, near Condobolin.

  • 1992 - 1994 Purchase and removal of 130 louver vans and rail tank cars, ex National Rail, Sandy Hollow.

  • 1994 - 1997 Scrapping of over 1500 Freight Corp. wagons for Sims Metal at Goulburn, Blayney, Pt Kembla, Pt Waratah, Bathurst, Grafton and Albury.

  • 1997 - Scrapping of 55 electric locomotives, 86 class ex Freight Corp. Sims Metal, Mascot.

  • 1997 - Purchase of 80 Louvre Vans from PTC Victoria for sale as portable bridges. Ex Wodonga. Purchase and removal of 30 derailment damaged wagons and scrap 150 redundant wagons, National Rail, Pt Augusta.

  • 1997 - 1998 Purchase of 120 Rail Tank Cars from Mobil and ASR. Tanks were degassed and scrapped in Mobil’s Pt Pirie fuel storage and distribution facility. Purchase of 50 Rail tank cars from Mobil. Degassed and scrapped at their Adelaide fuel storage centre and Goulburn railway yards.

  • 1998 - 1999 Purchase of 220 National Rail freight wagons for sale as portable steel bridges. Somerton VIC

  • 1999 Purchase and onsite scrapping of 550 railway bogie wheel sets, National Rail Wagon Maintenance terminal, Footscray

  • 2000 Site cleanup and purchase of damaged wagons, Freight Victoria derailment, Ararat.

  • 2001 Scrapping of 90 Aluminium coal hoppers for Sims Metal, ex Freight Corp. Bathurst.

  • 2001 - 2002 Scrapping of 45 stainless steel coal hoppers for Sims Metal, ex Freight Corp Pt Waratah.

  • 2002 Site cleanup, purchase of scrap wagons, recovery and transport damaged wagons, Freight Australia (Victoria) derailment site near Harden.

  • 2002 - 2003 Scrapping of 80 Freight Corp wagons for Sims Metal at Werris Creek. Transport of 55 grain wagons by road from Werris Creek to Freight Australia Bendigo

  • 2003 Site cleanup and scrapping of approximately 20 damaged wagons, Freight Corp derailment at Bathurst. Purchase of 30 Rail Tank Cars, Mobil and Caltex, degassed and scraped in Enfield marshalling yard. Transport of 50 new wagons by road from Webb Dock Melbourne to Bradken Mittagong for CFCLA. Collection and delivery of 30,000 damaged steel sleepers, trackside in the Menindee area, ARTC.

  • 2004 Site cleanup and purchase of derailment damaged wagons, transport of repairable wagons for Freight Australia, ex Grong Grong NSW.

  • 2005 Purchase of 14 derailment damaged wagons, Freight Australia and transport of repairable wagons, ex Portland Vic.

  • 2006 - 2007 Contract removal for Sims Metal of redundant rolling stock from various NSW sidings for Pacific National.

  • 2007 - 2008. On track collection of 130,000 scrap sleepers and corridor cleanup for John Holland Rail and ARTC joint venture - South Improvement Alliance. Melbourne – Seymour.

  • 2008 On track recovery of reusable rail fastening equipment and corridor cleanup from Wangaratta (VIC) to Junee (NSW) for ARTC.

  • 2008 Recovering reusable rail equipment for ARTC at Werris Ck including de-plating, sorting and bundling over 100,000 sleepers.

  • 2008 - Scrapping of 80 Pacific National rail wagons for Sims Metal , Werris Creek and Narrabri

  • Feb 2009 - purchase and removal from within the rail corridor of 900 tonnes of scrap railway line. ARTC Cootamundra

  • 2008 - 2010 - over 1.5 million timber and steel railway sleepers recovered from rail corridors throughout NSW and Vic for ARTC.

  • April - June 2010, scrapping of over 100 Pacific National grain wagons for Sims Metal, Tamworth and Moree
